The NeighborWorks® HomeOwnership Center is the approved site for the U. S. Department of Justice’s Weed and Seed Program for the City of Utica. Weed & Seed is a community-based multi-agency approach to law enforcement, crime prevention and neighborhood restoration. The goals of Weed and Seed are to control violent crime, drug trafficking, and drug related crime in targeted high-crime neighborhoods and provide a safe environment free of crime and drug use for residents. Weed and Seed brings together federal, state, and local crime agencies, social service providers, residents, prosecutors, and businesses under shared goals of "weeding" out crime while "seeding" in economic revitalization.
HOC began working on the Weed & Seed site designation in 1997 and became the Utica’s Weed & Seed site in 2002. We have also worked with the City of Rome to assist in their application.
